Dalí museum, Figueres
On the 14th of April, 2015, I went to the Dalí museum in Figueres, Catalunya.
We went to Spain for an exchange, and we stayed with host families for one week. One of the activities we did was our visit to the Dalí museum.
Salvador Dalí was a Spanish surrealist painter, who lived from 1904 till 1989. He was highly imaginative and enjoyed unusual behaviour. His attention-grabbing behaviour sometimes led to more attention to his personality, than to his artwork. However, Dalí being open-minded and innovative led to an amazing museum full of timeless art.
I didn’t choose myself to go to this museum, because the Spanish teachers planned our visit. However, I’m glad we went there because it was amazing to see all of his work. It was impressive to see all these pieces of art that had shocked the entire world at the time. His way of painting was totally new to the society he lived in, which probably was the reason he got famous. The fact that people still enjoy to go to the museum and see his paintings, describes how timeless his art is.
I really enjoyed the visit. Some of his paintings were beautiful, others were bizarre. There was one section, however, that I didn’t like. This section was full of simple paintings only containing dots or stripes. In my opinion, this section brings the quality of the rest of the museum a bit down.
The painting I loved most was the one you can see below; containing 3 women who are praying. I don’t know why it grabbed my attention so much, but I kept looking at it and I even went back to the room to see it again later on.
