On the 9th of April, 2015, we went to the “Gelders Orkest” in “Musis Sacrum te Arnhem” with all 4th graders.

The Orchestra already exists for 125 years. It is a group of musicians making symphonic music in different forms and at different locations.  It is an orchestra that can grab the attention from people all over the Netherlands, from all ages. Their live classical music has inspired people throughout the years.

At first, I wasn’t really eager to go to Arnhem and be present at the concert. I thought it would be really boring with dull, old songs. I know it’s a prejudice, but that’s probably the general idea teenagers get when they think of an orchestra.

However, they really tried their best to make it fun for adolescents too! I thought it was amazing how they grabbed our attention and kept it till the last note was played. They told us about songs we all know, and how they were linked to classical music.

I loved the fact that they converted classical musical into something everyone could be listening to. My idea of an orchestra has positively changed!
